The Flight of the Gypsies

Katie's dad commented on the family Christmas newsletter in 2006 that he considered us the gypsies of the family; always on the move and always moving. Well, we hate to disappoint, we decided that being in one place for nearly a year is too constraining, we hate becoming familiar with an area, and we were actually starting to make friends.
What's that translate into?
That's right. We're moving. Again.

I got a job at Weber State University in Ogden, UT as the Transfer Articulation Coordinator. It incorporates my current job responsibilities at UVU (recruitment, advising) with new responsibilities (articulation, supervisor, transfer credits). Some things I'm looking forward to include a higher salary, an actual office, walls that reach from the floor ALL THE WAY to the ceiling, supervisory experience, and working for a new staff and office. I've loved my time at UVU but some of it was getting a little tiring and so a change is what we need.

Katie is excited about it as well. She's had to drop her classes but is excited about working for a salon in the SLC area and finding a place that we can actually put pictures up and move her piano into. We've committed to actually staying there for two years until I'm done with my masters degree. We're still trying to decide WHERE to move to. Any suggestions? She's also trying to get everything figured out for the Disneyland event this October when we go with my younger brother and his wife. We're definitely still excited about that.

My job starts September 29th.

So all we do now is pack. Cause that's what gypsies do. Someday, one day, we'd like to stay in one place for longer than a year (see below).

Tagg since 18:
1998- Rexburg, ID
1999-2001- Florida (mission) moved 6 times
2001- Dallas (intern)
2001 - Rexburg, ID
2002 - Denver and Cleveland (one summer...stupid alarm sales)
2002- Logan, UT (2 different apartments)
2004- Alaska (tour guide)
2004- Logan, UT (new place)
2005- Rancho Cucamonga, CA (pest control office manager)
2005- Logan, UT (New place)
2006- Las Vegas, NV (Teacher)
2007- Orem UT (Recruiter)
2008- ????? (Transfer Coordinator)

That's actually exciting you guys can move to a better place (AND better pay).

My brother Shane lives in Ogden, I could ask him if he knows the places that are nice (he lives in an apartment and is new to the area, so I don't know how much help he'd really be).

Good luck with the move.

Oh man! I'm sooo excited for you!! Maybe Katie can give me piano lessons too?! :) Congrats on the new job, and new place and new... everything. I have moved 4 times in the 3 years I've been in Salt Lake, so I understand the Gypsie thing all too well. I hope to not be one some day. Until then... happy packing!!!

Offices with wall? I am coming with you.

If not, we will just have to rendezvous at the happiest place on Earth.

Congratulations on your new job AND on being gypsies. Not everyone can say that.

We used to be gypsies, too. We've since settled down (read: we own a house and accumulate TONS of crap). Enjoy your transient days; someday they'll be gone and you'll need a lawnmower.

I have two words for you: RANCHO CUCAMONGA!??! Listen. The fact that you lived in a place with this name entitles you to move freely about the country. Carry on my friend, carry on.

Apparentally the above comment has no clue what went down in RANCHO CUCAMONGA! the apartments were sweet...and especially the tree monkey! :) Those were some awesome times! (You know you liked it!) I feel you though...from the time we got married we moved from California to Logan for 4 months to San Fran for less than a month to Bakersfield for less than a month to Corona for about a year and just moved to Costa Mesa and have been there for 2 months. I liked to mentioned that each time we have had to rent a 30 foot penske truck. we are the official legit movers. We are excited for the next move because it will be to a house! i'm so excited for your new adventures though! :)

Wow! Congrats on an actual office. I can understand being tired of the cubical, and OTHER aspects of the job.:) You will like Weber. I went there before UVU, and I was in Leadership. That part was really fun. The only thing I didn't like was the gay pride EVERYWHERE. lol.
Good luck to you guys!!
